The second in the series of IOW Surf club contests was held at Compton bay last Saturday. The sunshine and large surf of 4-6ft saw a good entry for the Mens open and the Juniors under 18, some coming down from London to join in the fun. However it was the local boys and girl that stole the show with some impressive and powerful surfing in the tricky conditions. Matt Harwood clocked up the wave of the day with an 8.00 score and James Ranson wowed the crowd with a spectacular 360 layback, Josh Jupe was impressive in his semi final but couldn't find the right waves in the shifting peaks for the final and had to settle for 4th place.
It was Mark New's series of backhand slashes and turns with spray on outside set waves that racked up the best points winning him the surfboard given by local sponsors Harwoods of Yarmouth.
Zoe Sheath continued her winning streak again beating the boys in the Under 18 juniors with consistant surfing and using her local knowledge for a good wave selection.
Max Stovold (12) did well to come 2nd working hard against the white water and catching some nice inside sections.
Many thanks to sponsors: Harwoods, X-Isle, Fukwit and Ticket to ride.
The final contest of this series will be held in the New Year.
